For some, the death of Alabama girl remains an open wound three years after she was run to death as punishment for a lie.
Witnesses testified during the trial of the child's grandmother that they regret not doing something to help 9-year-old Savannah Hardin that day back in 2012.
One neighbor testified that she watched the child running and begging to stop yet didn't decide to intervene until after the child collapsed in a seizure.
Prosecutors say the guilt is misplaced. They say only two people are to blame for what happened: Savannah's grandmother Joyce Hardin Garrard and stepmother Jessica Mae Hardin.
Jurors convicted Garrard and recommend a sentence of life without parole. Hardin is awaiting trial on a murder charge for allegedly failing to help the girl.
