A Florida restaurant employee shot and killed a would-be armed robber, police said Wednesday night.
WSVN reported the Captain Max restaurant employee in Miramar engaged the masked gunman, who jumped behind the counter and started making demands.
“The guy, he walked up in there and jumped the counter in there,” Caleb Montgomery, who lives nearby, told WSVN. “Heard gun shots and we ran in the house. I guess he had to do what he had to do in that type of situation.”
Miramar Police Department spokeswoman Tania Rues said the employee “fired several shots and killed the suspect.” The restaurant only had one customer inside in addition to the employees. Police said it wasn’t clear what demands the robber made.
Minutes before the man attempted to rob the restaurant, he had walked into the Adam and Eve hair salon just a few doors down from Captain Max. Sherley Wagnac, the owner of the salon, told the station her “spirit wasn’t really taken with him.”
The salon workers watched him leave and head into Captain Max and alter watched as several police cars rushed onto the scene.
Rues urged witnesses and bystanders not to handle the scenarios on their own.
“I hope that people do not take these types of situations into their own hands,” she said. “Luckily, only the suspect was hurt, but there are situations where innocent bystanders could’ve been hurt as well.”
Police haven’t identified the would-be robber or the employee. No charged have been filed against the employee and all information will be forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office.
