Police in Florida are investigating a possible hate crime after a daycare and worship center was set ablaze and swastikas were spray-painted on its exterior.
Fort Lauderdale fire crews responded to the Little Leapers Day Care and Performing Arts Academy at 3:15 a.m. Sunday after a fire started in the kitchen, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
The building is also used as a sanctuary of the Bethel Worship Center, according to co-owner Sandra Wilson.
Wilson said more than $50,000 in equipment was stolen, including keyboards, speakers and microphones, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
The daycare was previously put on lockdown three weeks ago after a caller used a racial epithet and warned a teacher to “get out of the neighborhood.”
There were no injuries in the incident, and police say they’ve found signs of forced entry.
