FAA investigating jetliners' close call during takeoff, landing at Anchorage airport

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The FAA is investigating a close call between two jetliners at Alaska's Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.

A US Airways passenger jet that was landing May 21 came within a third-of-a-mile of a Cargolux 747 that was taking off on another runway.

The US Airways flight was coming from Phoenix with 138 passengers and a crew aboard. The Cargolux was leaving for Chicago with a crew of two.

The National Transportation Safety Board is sending an air traffic control specialist from Washington, D.C., to investigate.

(This version CORRECTS that the US Airways plane was landing and the Cargolux was taking off.)
