Volunteers and police are knocking on doors in Flint to distribute bottled water, filters and lead test kits to residents in the Michigan city that's confronting a water crisis.
State troopers and sheriff's deputies began escorting eight teams Tuesday morning, trudging through 3 inches of snow.
Sheriff's Capt. Casey Tafoya says they hope to get to 500 to 600 houses a day. The city has about 99,000 residents in an estimated 30,000 households.
Gov. Rick Snyder last week declared an emergency because of elevated lead levels in the drinking water.
Snyder said Tuesday while at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit that the goal is to get Flint residents what they need in terms of water until there is "a long-term solution."
