Defense attorneys are asking to delay a bond hearing for a white former police officer charged in the shooting death of a black motorist.
The hearing for Michael Slager had been set for Thursday. But a motion filed Monday by Slager's defense seeks a delay because his lead attorney is recovering from surgery.
The motion asks the hearing be rescheduled no later than Sept. 10. In a document filed with the motion, prosecutor Scarlett Wilson said she has no objection.
Slager, who was a North Charleston police officer at the time of the shooting, is charged with murder in the April 4 death of 50-year-old Walter Scott. A bystander's cellphone video showed Slager firing eight times as Scott tried to run away.
Slager was fired after the shooting.
