Dashboard video key evidence in trial of police officer accused of killing unarmed black man

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

Jurors have heard their first account of what happened in the seconds when a white Charlotte police officer shot and killed an unarmed black man who was looking for help after a car crash.

Footage from officer Adam Neal's dashboard camera was shown publically for the first time Wednesday as Neal testified in the third day of fellow officer Randall Kerrick's voluntary manslaughter trial.

Neal will return to the stand when the trial continues Thursday morning.

The September 2013 footage from Neal's cruiser didn't show officer Kerrick firing or Jonathan Ferrell being hit, but all 12 shots could be heard on an audio recording.

Neal says Ferrell fell on Kerrick's legs after the officer's first four shots. Neal says Kerrick fired eight more times as Ferrell made a crawling motion.
