Prosecutors are seeking 95 years in prison for an HIV-positive Dallas man who pleaded guilty to assault in a relationship that left a 15-year-old girl infected.
A judge in Dallas on Wednesday considers the penalty for 31-year-old Matthew Louis Reese.
Investigators say Reese had a sexual relationship with the girl and passed the virus to her. The now-17-year-old girl testified she would not have been with Reese if he told her about his HIV status.
Reese on Tuesday pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual assault of a child with a deadly weapon, aggravated sexual assault with serious bodily injury and sexual assault of a child. The plea deal means prison terms of 55 years, 20 years and 20 years. Prosecutors want the time served consecutively.
An attorney for Reese declined comment.
