A Dallas-area man has been sentenced to death for killing his children's baby sitter to silence her in a pending rape case against him.

A jury on Saturday condemned Franklin Davis to death for the slaying of 16-year-old Shania Gray. The jury had found him guilty of capital murder Tuesday.

Davis admitted to luring Gray into his car outside her school last year, shooting her and dumping her body in a river. He says he killed her because "her lies ruined my life," not because she may have testified against him. His attorneys had argued that he was guilty of murder, but not capital murder.

Gray was remembered as a friendly girl by friends and relatives, many of whom did not know about the rape case until after her death.
