DA: Philadelphia officer shot son in dispute over family car

Published November 22, 2016

Associated Press

A Philadelphia police officer has been charged with shooting his son in the back during a dispute over the use of the family car.

Officer Dorion Young has been charged with attempted murder and other counts in the Labor Day shooting.

District Attorney Seth Williams says the son had retreated to his bedroom when Young broke the door down and shot the 19-year-old with a personal weapon during a struggle. They say a second bullet bounced off the officer's shoe.

Williams says the son had to have his spleen removed and continues to recover from his injuries.

The 46-year-old Young is in custody and does not have a lawyer listed in court records. Police officials have suspended the 25-year veteran and plan to dismiss him.
