A man extradited from Iraq in a military contract bribery case has pleaded guilty in Ohio to three charges in an agreement with federal prosecutors.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Rose in Dayton has scheduled sentencing for July 1 for Metin (MEH'-tihn) Atilan (AT'-ihl-ahn). His attorney, Nick Gounaris (GOO'-nair-uhs), says the two sides agreed to request a sentencing range of 30 to 63 months with a $1 million fine.
Atilan was charged with conspiring to pay bribes and kickbacks to obtain supply contracts associated with U.S. military operations in and around Iraq. He has pleaded guilty to a conspiracy to commit wire fraud count and two other charges related to leaving the country after his arrest.
U.S. authorities say Atilan's was the first extradition from Iraq under a 1936 treaty.
