Coast Guard searches for engineer missing from Liberian-flagged tanker

The Coast Guard says it is searching for a man who was reported missing from a Liberian-flagged tanker in the Gulf of Mexico.

A news release says the tanker called the Coast Guard for help Sunday afternoon while it was about 20 miles offshore, en route to Port Aransas. The missing man is the chief engineer, a 47-year-old from Russia.

Crews were searching Sunday by helicopter, aircraft and boat.

The Coast Guard says a patrol boat was expected to search throughout the night.
