LOS ANGELES -- A California man who was found guilty of falsely promising bartending and mystery shopper jobs to thousands of people across the country in a $6 million scam has been sentenced to six years in federal prison.
U.S. attorney's office spokesman Thom Mrozek says Stevan Todorovic was sentenced Monday in Los Angeles federal court.
Prosecutors say Todorovic set up companies in Santa Barbara to market and sell bogus training programs, certifications and job referrals and placed ads in newspapers across the country that offered the jobs.
Prosecutors say job seekers were misled into thinking they had to purchase Todorovic's certification programs in order to receive referrals. But the certifications were worthless and Todorovic had no jobs to offer. He was convicted in July of wire fraud and mail fraud.
