Brown U. president looking into protest that shut down speech by NYC police commissioner

Brown University's president says she's looking into the events that led to a rowdy protest that shut down an on-campus speech by New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Christina Paxson says in a campus-wide letter Wednesday that she is forming a committee made up of faculty and students to examine the Oct. 29 lecture.

Kelly's speech had to be canceled when students and members of the broader community refused to let him speak. They were protesting his department's "stop and frisk" policy.

Paxson previously has called the disruption an affront to the Ivy League university's core values.

She says the committee will look at how the event was managed. She also says she'll use the findings to help decide if students should be disciplined.
