Authorities say a body has been found near the top of a popular Phoenix mountain, but it isn't immediately clear if it's that of a missing Seattle man.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say some hikers reported finding the body Monday evening on Camelback Mountain.

The ground search for Eric Fernandes was halted hours earlier after Phoenix police said search crews had covered all the area they can by foot and there was no sign of Fernandes.

Sgt. Trent Crump, a police spokesman, says people in distress on the steep, rocky mountain can be hard to spot if they have fallen into crevices.

Fernandes was last seen Saturday atop the mountain by other hikers who said he was alone. They described him as surprised by the difficulty of the hike.
