Police in western Colorado are investigating a homicide after a man injured in a crash told emergency workers that he had just killed his wife.

The crash happened Monday just outside Carbondale.

The Glenwood Springs Post Independent (http://bit.ly/1EKc7DV ) reports that the unidentified man rear-ended an empty cattle truck and was being airlifted to the hospital when he allegedly told the medical helicopter crew that he had killed his wife in an apartment building.

Police didn't find anything at the reported location of the killing but continued to search apartments in the area. They eventually discovered the body of a person dead of suspected knife wounds.

The man and the victim haven't been identified.

It's the first homicide in the town near Aspen in over 10 years.
