Police at Ball State University in Indiana are investigating reports that an armed person might be on campus and have advised students and faculty to seek safety.
The university issued an alert Friday evening saying that a "possible armed assailant" was reported in the area of the Muncie campus' Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
The school says campus police are securing the recreation building and connected facilities. The university is telling students and staff in several buildings to secure themselves in a safe location until police clear the area.
The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/1gS9g3l ) that there are no reports of gunfire.
Ball State officials did not immediately return a phone call seeking additional information.
