Alabama family adopts 4 children from Ukraine in middle of violent anti-government protests

Published January 08, 2015

Associated Press

An Alabama couple knew adopting four orphans at once from Ukraine would be stressful.

But it wasn't until the bullets started flying and homemade bombs exploded outside the apartment where they were staying in the capital of the eastern European country that they discovered just how stressful it could be.

David and Lisa Bundy spent last week a half-mile from the center of violent anti-government protests while trying to finalize the children's adoptions. David Bundy said they heard three or four explosions every 10 seconds.

David Bundy flew home to Montgomery on Sunday with three of the four children they adopted. Lisa Bundy remains in Ukraine with the fourth to try to complete her adoption at the same time an interim government takes control.
