A black bear at the center of a permit dispute between its owners and the state of Ohio has been euthanized after a last meal that included a cream-filled doughnut.
The owners of the toothless, 41-year-old bear named Archie say he was in failing health.
He was euthanized Friday after they gave him a big breakfast of dog food mixed with tapioca pudding and a doughnut.
His owners told the Medina (meh-DY'-nuh) Gazette (http://bit.ly/1Ig8rRs ) that's not something he usually gets, but they gave Archie one last treat because he loved sweets.
A judge last May dismissed a civil case by the northeast Ohio couple who wanted to keep the bear despite not getting a required state permit.
They had argued the caged bear was old and unlikely to escape.
