5.1 quake rattles Northern California, no damage reported

Published August 10, 2016

Associated Press

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake rattled rural Northern California with no reports of damage or injuries.

The U.S Geological Survey reported the quake struck at 7:57 p.m. Tuesday and its epicenter in rural Lake County, about 115 miles east of Sacramento. Two small aftershocks of 2.7 and 3.0 could be felt about 30 minutes after the initial quake.

The Lake County Sheriff dispatch reported no damage or injuries and said firefighters were battling a small wildfire nearby. Residents and business owners in the region reported swaying light fixtures and scared pets, but no damage or injuries.

Under certain conditions, a temblor of that size is capable of causing considerable damage.
