DICKSON, Tenn. – Three law enforcement officers have been shot in two separate incidents in Tennessee and one is in extremely serious condition after being shot in the head.
The first shooting happened around 1 a.m. in Memphis, where police said two officers were ambushed when they responded to a call about an armed man in a normally quiet suburban neighborhood.
The officers returned fire and critically injured the suspect, a mental patient who later died. Both officers' injuries were non-critical.
Later Monday morning in Dickson, about 40 miles west of Nashville, a sheriff's deputy was shot in the head by an assailant who then killed himself. Police chief Ricky Chandler said the deputy stopped the suspect after he ran his estranged wife off the road.
