Authorities say two police officers were shot near the eastern edge of Atlanta, and a suspected gunman is being sought.
DeKalb County police Capt. Stephen Fore says both officers suffered what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries.
Dozens of police cars swarmed the DeKalb County neighborhood, where several roads were closed after the Friday morning gunfire near Interstate 285. Video from television stations showed officers and police dogs searching roadsides and a field near a large apartment complex.
DeKalb County Schools spokesman Quinn Hudson said shortly before 9 a.m. that four nearby schools were on lockdown: Towers and Columbia highs schools; Snapfinger Elementary; and DeKalb Preparatory Academy.
Hudson says the schools were put on lockdowns at the request of police.
