Two men have been charged with killing three members of a Southern California household whose bodies were found in their burned home eight years ago.

The district attorney's office says the two 25-year-olds — Robert Pape and Cristin Smith — appeared in court Wednesday for arraignment on three counts of murder with allegations that each personally used a firearm in two of the Riverside County killings.

Authorities say Pape was the boyfriend of 18-year-old Becky Friedli, who was killed along with her mother, Vicki Friedli, and Vicki's boyfriend, Jon Hayward, in Pinyon Pines.

Pape and Smith were charged in a grand jury indictment unsealed Wednesday. Smith's name was removed because he was a juvenile at the time, and he was instead charged directly by prosecutors.

Smith pleaded not guilty, but Pape's arraignment was postponed.
