A piano that Abraham Lincoln likely heard when he courted Mary Todd in Springfield has been restored.
The Springfield Art Association will reveal the square grand piano Saturday at a concert at Edwards Place. It will feature music the 16th president was said to favor.
Erika Holst is art association collections curator. She says the piano was manufactured in Philadelphia about 1835. There is evidence that Ninian Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, who was Mary Todd's sister, owned the piano at the time Lincoln courted his future wife at the Edwards' home.
That house no longer stands, but Edwards Place was in the Edwards' family. It got the piano from the National Park Service in 2011 and raised $17,000 to restore it.
