An investigation that lasted more than two years has culminated with indictments of 129 people who authorities say are part of a Southern California street gang with ties to the Mexican Mafia.
The FBI says the investigation, named Operation Smokin' Aces, concluded Tuesday with authorities fanning out across Southern California to make more than 100 arrests.
Authorities say undercover agents purchased dozens of guns, seized 22 pounds of methamphetamine and lesser amounts of heroin and cocaine during the probe
The FBI says most of the federal indictments involved drug trafficking.
The Los Angeles Times reports that a 28-year-old woman whose body was found under a Newport Bay bridge on Labor Day was among those listed in the indictments.
