Some late passengers go to extreme lengths to avoid missing a flight. But one Ryanair passenger may wind up in jail for trying to catch a plane that already left the gate.
A video shared on Facebook purpotedly shows a man running cross the tarmac at Madrid airport in an attempt to catch the plane. The man – who appears to have missed boarding – speeds past planes on the runway carrying two pieces of hand luggage in a desperate attempt to make the flight.
In the footage, the traveler first appears to jump down from the gangway to the plane which has already become detached from the aircraft.
Wearing a green t-shirt and dark shorts he runs from the terminal building towards the plane carrying two pieces of luggage. He then appears to try to hop onto an airport cart but the driver refuses.
Scrambling for his bag the man breaks into a run and is met by what looks to be two members of airport staff.
A plane preparing to take off can be seen on the runway behind.
The video – which has been shared nearly 15,000 times – then cuts off and it is unclear if the man makes the flight.
Below the video the caption suggests the passenger “jumped various safety procedures” to make his way to the runway.
Hundreds of people have since commented on the video with one writing: “What did he think was going to happen? That they’d just pull up some stairs and let him board!? Hahaha.”
Another joked: “It’s just like missing a bus.”
A spokesman for Ryanair said: “Since this video relates to a security breach at Madrid Airport, it’s a matter for Madrid Airport Police.”
