New Questions Over How to Pay for Tax Cuts
CHARLES PAYNE: Let's get the tax cuts done sooner rather than later because Trump's base, along with most other Americans, is getting restless. Don't let the CBO hold you hostage. They have been lousy at forecasting budgets. Focus on the low-hanging fruit which is tax cuts which will create a domino effect to where you can enact tax reform.
CHARLIE GASPARINO: The data is overwhelming. If you give people more money to spend, guess what they do with that money? They either spend it or invest it. That leads to higher economic growth. That's what happened under Reagan. Tax cuts can work by themselves.
KENNEDY: I think you have to cut both taxes and spending without abandon. I don't believe that those two are tethered together so I don't believe in this revenue neutrality. I think that is a false demigod.
BEN STEIN: Revenues rose after tax cuts under Reagan only because we were coming out of a recession. There is no data which says that tax cuts by themselves pay for themselves.
ADAM LASHINSKY: The revenue neutral idea use to be a really strong idea from the Republican Party. Now they don't believe it which is laughable.
United Airlines to Face Congress
CHARLES PAYNE: The government should make it easier for competition. Open up a couple of slots so someone can open up another airline and then see if the free market could work.
CHARLIE GASPARINO: There are two issues here: overbooking and dragging out a guy by his feet. Congress is going to use this video as a way to heap more regulations on the airlines.
KENNEDY: Why does Congress have to solve every problem when a video goes viral? If they don't overbook these flights, how much revenue are they losing? This means plane tickets will more than double. Then how much will they charge you for checked baggage?
BEN STEIN: Airlines have a real problem with how they treat customers at every level of the airline business. There has to be real soul searching in the airline business independent of Congress.
ADAM LASHINSKY: I agree with Kennedy. The combination of the free market and viral videos are going to solve this problem pretty well. United could've saved a lot of money by offering those people a lot of money to get off.
Saturday Is Earth Day! New Look at the Price of Environmental Regulations
CHARLES PAYNE: It's a scam. It's been a scam that California pays this much.
CHARLIE GASPARINO: There's a whole crony capitalism aspect of environmental laws but the Hudson River is clean because of some environmental laws so they are not all bad.
KENNEDY: Has there ever been a laboratory of democracy that shows that bureaucracy doesn't work, it is California.
BEN STEIN: I agree with Adam Lashinsky.
ADAM LASHINSKY: Imagine the problem if we didn't spend this money.
