Glenn Beck on His Future After Fox News

BILL O'REILLY, HOST: In the "At Your Beck and Call" segment tonight: Our pal Glenn announced this week that he is leaving Fox News later this year, so we obviously wanted to find out what he's going to do.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

O'REILLY: So here's Beck, causing trouble again. Now, what's this I hear, you're going to retire now?

GLENN BECK, FOX NEWS ANCHOR: I'm going to Florida.

O'REILLY: I heard that. You're going down to The Villages.

BECK: Going down to The Villages.

O'REILLY: You're going to be the spokesperson.

BECK: I'm going to be -- I'm just going to be in plaid pants. The ladies in the Villages. Don't think I don't get the (INAUDIBLE).

O'REILLY: All right. Now, what are you really going to do? You don't want to do the TV gig everyday, and I understand that. I mean -- and I'm not being facetious now. It's hard work.

BECK: I know. America, I don't think you understand this. I do almost an hour of work everyday, five days. And I mean, I have breaks like every eight minutes or so.

O'REILLY: Will you tell the folks what you think you're going to do.

BECK: Yes, I will tell you that I believe -- and we were talking during the break -- that it's a new era. Things are changing in the world. And you know, Fox is -- there's no place to do cable news except for Fox. That's it. That's it. No personality -- I don't think you could go over to another cable network and have the ratings you have.

O'REILLY: The only cable network I could go to that would spike the ratings, Syfy.

BECK: I've seen that movie. Yes, OK. But we have to reach different audiences. We have to reach younger.

O'REILLY: So you're going to do more Internet stuff.

BECK: Internet stuff. Not necessarily just with me. You know -- I mean, Bill, you know my business. I'm multiplatform and do many different things.

O'REILLY: You're a mogul.

BECK: Right.

O'REILLY: You are a mogul. So you're going to develop programming not only for you but for other people on the Net. And you know, AOL just paid a fortune for that Huffington thing.

BECK: I didn't...

O'REILLY: You didn't hear that? Yes, she's running around New York wanting to buy a big condo now.

BECK: Yes, Arianna. No, no. Property values are probably going to go down a little bit.

O'REILLY: It is a brave new world out there, and this is where the communication center in the next few years is going to be. And you're going to be in the middle of it, right?

BECK: I -- nothing is going to change, except the way people receive their news, information.

O'REILLY: Can I just -- can I implore you to change a little bit? Can I just...

BECK: Really? I will say this. I don't think I'm wearing a tie again.

O'REILLY: No?

BECK: I think this is it. This is it. Just on Sundays.

O'REILLY: Right.

BECK: I'm done with the tie.

O'REILLY: OK. But I'm hoping you can still come back to "The Factor."

BECK: I would love to.

O'REILLY: I'm hoping we can work that out. Now, your vision for the country means that you want to get on the Internet to say things about the country.

BECK: No, here's -- no, really, honestly, Bill, one of the motivating factors for me is I believe in the things I say. I know that, you know, a lot of people disagree with me, and you're one of them on some of the things that I say. But I do believe them. So now what? Well, it's not enough for me to say as a citizen, you know what? You go out and help people. You do it. It's time for me to do that, as well.

O'REILLY: So you're going to keep your radio show. You're developing programming already on that. You're going to develop programming on the Internet. You're going to be on the Internet more?

BECK: Well, I mean, I guess, yes.

O'REILLY: You don't know, but you could?

BECK: Yes, I'm not -- I'm not ready to -- that Arianna Huffington, she is sly. I'm not going to give her...

O'REILLY: That's right. You don't want to give away too much. But you've got that Blaze thing going, which is pretty good.

BECK: I like the way you say that, too. The Blaze thing.

O'REILLY: It's an Internet thing. It's a website.

BECK: The Blaze.

O'REILLY: See, I'm not -- BillOReilly.com does a fabulous job, makes a lot of money. But I'm -- you're ahead of me on this. You're ahead of me. This is the only area in which you are ahead of me.

BECK: What?

O'REILLY: No, no, it's true. I mean, that Net thing frightens me.

BECK: May I just -- maybe because you call it "that Net thing." I mean, honestly.

O'REILLY: But every time I try to Google something, all right -- no, I get Margaret Hamilton. Or some witch. I don't know. It's something in there. Now, there is a presidential election coming up, and I thought that you might be a factor in that election. Certainly you're not going to vote for Barack Obama. But, you know, in getting a nominee for the Republican Party…

BECK: I thought you were suggesting that maybe I was leaving television because if you are running for president, this would be the time to.

O'REILLY: No. Let's stay in the realm of reality. You look like the president of Uzbekistan, by the way. Did you know that?

BECK: It would be a country wouldn't have to change the name.

O'REILLY: No. No, you can...

BECK: I like it.

O'REILLY: But are you -- are you going to get involved in that election? Because that's the big thing coming, 2012.

BECK: I don't think you need -- again, I really truly believe that the answer is with the people. It's not...

O'REILLY: You want to change hearts and minds then? You don't care about the political process too much?

BECK: No, I think -- I think there have been people throughout history who have changed the course of America and not been in the political system. Just change the -- change the...

O'REILLY: Culture.

BECK: Culture.

O'REILLY: Finally, I wrote my newspaper column on you this week. Did you see that?

BECK: I did.

O'REILLY: You have somebody read it to you? I know you're busy.

BECK: Strangely, I did. Yes, I have minions that do things, and that is what us moguls do.

O'REILLY: I don't want you to comment on the column so much as I wanted to bring people's attention to it, because, you know, the press was nasty when they made the announcement that you weren't going to continue.

BECK: Let me just suck up to you for a minute, and it's not suck-up.

O'REILLY: No, no.

BECK: No, it's not suck-up. Listen, this guy, you have been more kind to me than anyone on television.

O'REILLY: I think it's kinder. Grammatically incorrect, more kind.

BECK: I hate his guts. I hate him so much.

O'REILLY: Glenn Beck, everybody.
