BILL O'REILLY, HOST: In the "Personal Story" segment tonight: As you may know, "Factor" producer Jesse Waters occasionally does man on the street interviews with people who dodge "The Factor." That has angered some on the far left and groups like Think Progress do not like Jesse. They are, of course, misguided. Anyway, some nebbish from that group caught up with Watters in Washington.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
BEN ARMBRUSTER, THINK PROGRESS: Are you Jesse Watters?
JESSE WATTERS, "O'REILLY FACTOR" PRODUCER: What's up?
ARMBRUSTER: Are you Jesse Watters?
WATTERS: Who are you?
ARMBRUSTER: I'm Ben Armbruster from ThinkProgress.org.
WATTERS: What's up, buddy? How are you doing?
ARMBRUSTER: I just want to ask you a quick question?
WATTERS: Is this an ambush? Listen, this is not how do you ambush, man.
ARMBRUSTER: Why not?
WATTERS: You've got to have a real camera, first of all.
ARMBRUSTER: This is real. It works.
WATTERS: If you're going to do, like, a real ambush, you've got to get a crew. You've got to get a sound guy.
ARMBRUSTER: Why? What's the...
WATTERS: You're kind of, you know, a little JV. I got to teach you some things, all right?
ARMBRUSTER: Yes. I never made the varsity team in high school, so I don't really know what it's like.
WATTERS: It looks like it. It looks like you're a little JV.
ARMBRUSTER: So I wanted to ask you, there's a report out a couple days ago about a Fox News insider saying that Fox News just makes stuff up and is a propaganda outfit for the GOP. I was wondering what you think about that.
WATTERS: Well, first of all, when you do those things, you've kind of got to like start, you know, "Hey, how are you doing?" You know, "What's your name?"
ARMBRUSTER: So what do you think about it?
WATTERS: You know, usually when I do these things, I say, "Hi, Jesse Watters…"
ARMBRUSTER: I did. I did introduce myself.
WATTERS: "I'm with Fox News. Nice to meet you." Like a smile usually helps. That first kind of like break the ice. A little tip.
ARMBRUSTER: So what do you think about that -- that story?
WATTERS: The other thing is when you approach someone with a camera phone, it's kind of weak.
ARMBRUSTER: Yes.
WATTERS: Do you know what I mean? It's just kind of weak.
ARMBRUSTER: So you don't have any comment on that story? Do you not have a comment on it? Do you think that Fox makes stuff up?
WATTERS: Bro -- bro, you're coming at me with a camera phone, bro.
ARMBRUSTER: Well, answer the question, yes or no. Do you think Fox makes stuff up? Yes or no?
WATTERS: Do I think Fox makes stuff up? That's your question?
ARMBRUSTER: Yes.
WATTERS: You know, another little piece of advice when you're doing these ambushes or whatever, the question is very important. And I just don't think you're really bringing it with that question. I think you need to go back…
ARMBRUSTER: So yes or no?
WATTERS: …maybe try again. Come back with like a more hard-hitting question.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
O'REILLY: All right. Here now is Watters. That was the perfect way to handle that. Just so the audience knows, this dopey Media Matters outfit, which is a website, ran some kind of blind report, right?
WATTERS: Yes.
O'REILLY: Some former Fox News employee, not named, right?
WATTERS: Correct.
O'REILLY: No name on it, said that we make stuff up.
WATTERS: Right.
O'REILLY: This moron comes out there and he's, "Are you making stuff up?" Most people say no, we don't make stuff up. You were brilliant in the sense that you don't even answer the question. This is stupid.
WATTERS: I don't really want to dignify the guy with a response.
O'REILLY: The question is so dumb that I'm not going to answer it. Now, the reason we put Watters on is because we have a new segment, "Watter World." It's going to be Jesse Watters, but it's going -- you know, like the movie, which was a huge bomb. We're going to send you out to talk to younger Americans about issues. Now, the first one is a week from tomorrow. What are you going to talk about?
WATTERS: We're going to talk about what Michelle Obama said about Facebook. She said she doesn't want young people on Facebook. So we're hitting the streets. I'm talking to the youth, taking their pulse, kind of jousting with them a little bit. They're very passionate about this. They're interested in security issues, sex issues online, privacy issues. Facebook is like a drug to them. So they take it very, very personal.
O'REILLY: Mrs. Obama doesn't like the Facebook thing, and you're going to say, well, what do you think about her opinion and actually ask a question, unlike the guy that you met in Washington. And they're going to answer; you'll just have a little debate with them, right?
WATTERS: It's going to be a back and forth. We're kind of going to take their pulse and, if they say something stupid, I'll smack them around a little bit.
O'REILLY: No. No smacking. I have to do that.
WATTERS: OK.
O'REILLY: You be gentle. Do exactly what you did with the guy in D.C. Have fun with it. I love the JV line. That was good.
WATTERS: OK. So no smacking around.
O'REILLY: No smacking.
WATTERS: OK. Got it.
O'REILLY: Just be good.
WATTERS: OK.
O'REILLY: But we want to know, you know, we want to see what the younger people have. If they can debate the issue with you and this, that and the other thing. We're looking forward to it. If you want to see the entire ambush -- but I think you got the flavor of it -- it's on Fox Nation.
WATTERS: FoxNation.com. Check it out.
O'REILLY: Which Watters participates in every day, right?
WATTERS: Yes, sir.
O'REILLY: Good for you. All right. So a week from today, Watters launches his segment.
