Woman Who Said She Shot Husband While Dancing With Gun Guilty of Murder

A woman who claimed to have accidentally shot her husband to death while dancing with a shotgun was convicted of his murder Thursday.

Linda West, 49, had claimed the gun went off accidentally as she was performing a dance routine for her husband, Gregory, to Shania Twain's country-pop hit "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" in May 2005.

Gregory West, 45, was hit in the chest and died instantly.

Prosecutors alleged that West had deliberately shot her husband of nine weeks after a drunken argument. They said West did not mention the dance routine during police interviews and could not explain why the gun was loaded.

West collapsed in the dock as the verdict was pronounced at Winchester Crown Court, 65 miles southwest of London.

It was West's second trial for the killing. A jury failed to reach a verdict on murder and manslaughter charges at an earlier trial.

Judge Guy Boney adjourned the case for sentencing on a date still to be fixed.
