If a Varney woman had just stayed put in her car when it started sliding, she probably would have been OK, State Police say.

But Leslie Denise Hinkle, 44, apparently panicked when she lost control of her car on snow-covered Rocky Hill Road Sunday afternoon as she was driving up the steep hill to her home, said Trooper DJ Chapman.

Hinkle tried to jump out of the vehicle, said Chapman. As she exited, she was caught by the door and pinned underneath the car.

Other motorists stopped, pulled the vehicle off of Hinkle and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but were unable to revive her.

"If she'd just stayed in the car, even if it had slid over the hill, she would have been fine," Chapman said.
