A South Dakota volunteer moderating a Cleveland-based diabetes Web site is credited with helping a man contemplating suicide in Wisconsin.

Lloyd Mann, who lives near Mill Bank, S.D., says he learned early Saturday of disturbing messages posted by a regular visitor to DiabetesDaily.com. Mann contacted the poster and became convinced the man had a gun and planned to kill himself.

Mann had been tipped off by another user of the Web site, and that person worked with him to track down the troubled poster's name and hometown.

They alerted police in Ashwaubenon, Wis., outside Green Bay, and Mann says an hour later he was told he'd been right to be concerned. An officer called to say police were talking to the man and that he'd been going through a rough time.
