MANCHESTER, Vt. – A local man is facing charges he secretly videotaped two women in the bathroom of his home.
Donald R. McCabe, 55, is facing up to two years in prison. He pleaded innocent Monday in Vermont District Court in Bennington to a misdemeanor charge of voyeurism.
Manchester police say a woman who rented a room from McCabe contacted them after finding video tapes of her using the bathtub and another woman using the shower.
The woman told police she found a camera hidden in a bathroom vanity. She also found a hole in the vanity that allowed the camera to be aimed at the bathtub, said an affidavit written by Manchester police officer Paul McGann.
Vermont had no law against video voyeurism until June 2005 when The Safe Communities Act signed into law. It prohibits a "person from viewing, photographing, or filming a person without his or her knowledge if that person has a reasonable expectation of privacy."
Anyone convicted twice of video voyeurism would have to register as a sex offender.
