U.S. Capitol Area Reopens After Police Investigate Suspicious Vehicle

A four-block stretch of Independence Avenue bordering the U.S. Capitol was closed for almost two hours Friday after police discovered what they said was a suspicious vehicle.

Capitol Police spokeswoman Kemberly Schneider said the area was reopened to vehicles and pedestrians after police determined that the vehicle did not contain dangerous material. A hazardous device technician was on the scene, she said.
