U.K. Teacher Charged With Attempted Murder of Student, Appears in Court

A science teacher appeared in court Saturday to answer charges that he attempted to murder one of his students.

Peter Harvey, 49, was remanded in custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on July 27. He spoke only to confirm his name and address during a 10-minute hearing at the town's magistrates' court.

Harvey is accused of attacking Jack Waterhouse, 14, at All Saints' Roman Catholic School in Mansfield, United Kingdom on Wednesday morning.

The student was found by paramedics unconscious in a pool of blood at the entrance to a classroom in the school's science wing.

Waterhouse is currently in a stable condition at a Nottingham hospital, where he is being treated for serious head injuries.

"Peter Harvey, aged 49, of Rannoch Drive, Mansfield, is accused of the attempted murder of Jack Waterhouse, aged 14, at All Saints' Roman Catholic School on Wednesday, July 8, 2009," said a police officer.
