Two Culprits Sought After a Third Dies in AK-47 Shootout With Police
AUSTIN – Police are looking for two suspects after an early morning shootout in which officers killed a man firing an AK-47 assault rifle at them.
Cops say the gun battle happened before dawn Thursday after a short pursuit of the vehicle suspected in an earlier shooting that injured two men.
Police Chief Art Acevedo tells the Austin American-Statesman that the wounded victims are in the hospital in stable condition.
There were four other people in the car with the suspect who was killed, and Acevedo says police have two of them in custody but the other two remain at large.
Officials say seven schools near the site of the shooting and chase were closed for the day as a precaution.
