The aggravated murder trial has begun in Seattle for a man charged with killing four members of a Kirkland family and setting their home on fire.

King County Deputy Prosecutor Scott O'Toolle told the jury Wednesday that Conner Schierman attacked the family that lived across the street from his apartment.

Schierman has pleaded not guilty in the July 2006 killing of 28-year-old Olga Milkin, her two sons — 5-year-old Justin and 3-year-old Andrew — and her 24-year-old sister, Lyubov Botvina.

Schierman told police he woke up covered in blood in the Kirkland home of National Guard Sgt. Leonid Milkin after an alcoholic blackout.

KING-TV reports Milkin was in Iraq at the time. He was in uniform in court Wednesday for the start of the trial.
