Thursday, July 31: Cruel Hoax

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

It sounded too good to be true: The parents of Shannon Marie Sherrill (search), missing for 17 years, received calls purportedly from their daughter hoping to reconnect. In the end, it turned out to be nothing more than a cruel hoax.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Donna L. Walker, 35, of Topeka, Kan., who faces a felony charge of identity deception and a misdemeanor charge of false reporting.

What could have possessed someone to perpetrate such a hoax? We’ll ask Dave Bursen, PIO for the Indiana State Police, and Vince DiNova, executive director of Child Protection of Education of America.

Plus, it's been an emotional roller coaster for the parents of Shannon Sherrill. Do they feel like they’ve lost their daughter all over again? We’ll be joined by Mike Sherrill, Shannon’s father, and his step-daughter Kelly Clark.

Kobe Bryant (search) has already admitted he had sex with a 19-year-old hotel worker who has accused him of rape, but a new report presents a more complicated picture about what allegedly happened in his mountain resort suite last month. If some contact was consentual, how will the case be impacted? We’ll ask Lisa Pinto, former prosecutor, and Melinda McAllister, criminal defense attorney.

Carlton Dotson (search), the man accused of killing Baylor University basketball player Patrick Dennehy, suggested in a jailhouse interview that he acted in self-defense and also said he has been hearing voices, a newspaper reported Wednesday. But does his story match the evidence? The Dallas Morning NewsShani George weighs in.

Plus, pro-choice, pro-life -- very few issues have divided Americans like abortion. But with new factors emerging, people who insisted for years that they were adamantly on one side of the fence find themselves somewhere in the middle. We’ll get a fair and balanced debate on the future of abortion in America from Joe Giganti, spokesman for the American Life League; Ann Stone, national chairman for Republicans for Choice.
