GOFFSTOWN, NH – Strong storms moved across the state, closing schools and flooding streets in an area already hard-hit by flooding last month. Schools in Goffstown and neighboring Dunbarton and New Boston were closed Friday as some roads were damaged overnight.
Up to 4 inches of rain fell in some areas in just a few hours. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches were common, prompting a flash flood watch in Cheshire and Hillsborough Counties overnight.
The National Weather Service said scattered showers continuing into Friday night could bring an additional 1 to 1 1/2 inches of rain to southeastern New Hampshire and York County in southern Maine.
In New York, two bodies were found in a gorge in the Finger Lakes region after severe weather caused flash flooding in the area Thursday, authorities said.
And in Pembroke, N.H., a woman was reportedly struck by lightning Thursday. She was treated at a hospital and released, WMUR-TV reported.
Some 25 New Hampshire homes were destroyed and more than 5,000 others were damaged last month by flood waters when record-breaking rain dumped up to 17 inches in some parts of the region.
