A 32-year-old Toronto real estate agent died last week following liposuction surgery, Canada.com reports.

Krista Stryland died in the emergency room at North York General Hospital last Thursday after she experienced complications in the recovery room of the Toronto Cosmetic Clinic, regional coroner Dr. Jim Edwards said.

Edwards said the cause of death is unknown and it could take weeks to determine the circumstances under which Stryland died.

The death calls into question Canadian regulations, which allow medical doctors who are not cosmetic surgeons to perform plastic surgery procedures, said Dr. Frank Lista, the former head of the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Stryland was undergoing liposcuction for her abdomen when she suffered a heart attack, Canada's Globe and Mail reports.
