AUSTIN, Texas – A man who police say fired shots at officers and took a 16-year-old girl hostage remained barricaded inside a house Monday, the second day of the standoff.
Classes at nearby Pecan Springs Elementary School were canceled Monday. A nearby day-care center also was closed, and neighborhood residents have been asked to stay inside their homes.
Officers went to the house responding to a report of gunshots fired Sunday. When they arrived, two men were seen running from the house. One man stopped, but the other ran. A man then emerged from the side of the house and exchanged several gunshots with officers.
Police said they believe the 23-year-old man was wounded and ran inside a nearby house.
A police spokeswoman said officers are in contact with the man but had no other information.
