Ten U.S. troops suffering battle-related injuries from the war in Iraq were in stable condition Monday, including two in intensive care, according to doctors at a U.S. military hospital in Germany.
Six Marines and two Army soldiers were flown to Germany from Kuwait early Monday, Capt. Norris Jones, a spokesman for U.S. European Command said.
Two other Marines arrived Sunday, Jones said. Officials earlier said 12 wounded were being brought to Germany.
All were in stable condition at the U.S. military's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in southwestern Germany. None of their identities were released.
Of the eight wounded who arrived Monday, two were in intensive care and six were in the medical surgical ward, said Maj. Yong Chun. Most were suffering from blast injuries, he said.
Medics earlier took the eight wounded off a C-141 plane at the nearby Ramstein Air Base on stretchers. Several were wrapped in bandages, including one with a heavily bandaged head who was hooked up to an oxygen mask and was taken away in an ambulance.
Col. David Rubenstein, the commander of the Landstuhl hospital, said no wounded from the 101st Airborne Division had yet been evacuated, but that members of that unit were expected to arrive in Germany within the next 24 hours.
Three soldiers were seriously wounded when a fellow soldier allegedly threw grenades into tents at the division's command center in Kuwait. One soldier was killed and 15 injured. Military authorities are investigating.
