Teen Suspected of Starting Santa Barbara County 'Gap' Fire in July
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Authorities say they have arrested a 16-year-old on suspicion of starting a wildfire in Santa Barbara County in July.
The so-called Gap Fire — unrelated to the recent blaze in Santa Barbara and Montecito — burned 9,500 acres of private and National Forest land in Santa Barbara County. The fire cost an estimated $20 million to tackle.
U.S. Forest Service and Santa Barbara County Fire Department investigators announced Monday the suspect was arrested on arson charges and is being held in the Santa Barbara County juvenile detention facility in Santa Maria.
