Three Tampa area schools are closed as authorities struggle to stop an ammonia leak.

A boy drilling into a pipeline Monday night released a cloud of ammonia near the Alafia River that authorities are dissipating with water.

The pipe carries ammonia from a port to fertilizer plants east of Tampa. Authorities say it may take another day or so to stop it.

Some area neighborhoods were evacuated because ammonia in the air causes respiratory problems.

The boy told authorities he drilled into the pipe because he heard money was hidden there. He was severely burned and taken to a hospital. Four firefighters were treated for respiratory problems.
