The Singapore (search) government opened up the Southeast Asian city-state's naval and air forces bases Friday so that donors could drop off supplies here, before they were shipped on for distribution in Indonesia (search).

Defense Minister Teo Chee Hean said airports in the Sumatran towns of Medan and Banda Aceh were already overstretched because of the massive amount of aid and personnel arriving to support the global quake relief effort.

Singapore's Changi Naval Base (search), located just south of the country's international civilian airport, is among the biggest in the region and is capable of taking the largest vessels now afloat, including US aircraft carriers.
