Severed Leg Found in California May Be Related to Homicide

Investigators are probing whether a severed human leg found in a rural area of Sutter County may be related to a nearby missing-person case.

A group of people playing paintball found the unclothed limb of a white male adult on Sunday afternoon. It was in an area called Beer Can Beach along the Feather River, west of Nicolaus.

Sutter County Sheriff's Department officials say the limb lay about two miles from where authorities found an abandoned car, whose owner was reported missing on Monday.

Officials are investigating the case as a homicide, and have dispatched cadaver-sniffing dogs to search for other body parts. Technicians from the anthropology department at California State University, Chico are working to identify the limb.
