AMMAN, Jordan – Saddam Hussein has added three Arab attorneys to his defense team, bringing to seven the number of lawyers charged with defending the former Iraqi dictator against accusations of killing scores of Shiite Muslims after a 1982 attempt on his life.
One of the hires said he decided to join Saddam's defense to protest the occupation of Iraq, claiming "it is illegal and has no international consensus."
Hundreds of lawyers from around the world have volunteered to defend Saddam, most from Arab countries.
Saddam's trial is set to resume Jan. 24.
