Rice Surprised by Mideast Scholarship Incident

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says she was surprised to learn that the State Department had yanked Fulbright scholarships from eight Palestinian students from Gaza.

Rice said Friday she is going to look into it since she believes it's important to help young Palestinians. She said that engaging young people is key to the future of a Palestinian state.

The State Department pulled the scholarships because Israel will not grant the Palestinians exit visas from Gaza so they can travel to the United States to study at universities under an education grants program.
