A powerful earthquake with preliminary magnitude of 7.1 occurred in the Pacific Ocean on Sunday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The quake occurred at 11:09 a.m., the agency said in a statement, citing information provided by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. The quake occurred about 215 miles south-southeast of Guam, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Japanese agency issued no tsunami warnings, but said there may be a chance of tsunami near the epicenter. However, an official at the Hawaii center said it had not received any reports of a tsunami.
