Pope Benedict XVI has confirmed he will visit Britain and says he hopes British Catholics will increase their devotion ahead of the visit.
No dates have been set, but officials at both the Vatican and in Britain say the visit is planned for September.
Benedict made the announcement in a speech to visiting British bishops. In his comments, he urged them to warmly welcome disaffected Anglicans who want to join the Catholic Church by saying their addition will be a blessing for all.
The Vatican announced last year it was making it easier for Anglicans to join the church. Several groups of traditional Anglicans upset over the ordination of women and gay bishops had petitioned the Vatican over the years.
